May 1937

Metal buttons, in paper envelope

In May 1937 ‘Woman and Beauty’ magazine gave away to its readers a coronation souvenir set of buttons in a paper envelope. They were decorated with a crown and the emblems of each country within the United Kingdom; the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, and the shamrock of Northern Ireland. A button depicting the leek of Wales, now missing, is likely to have made up the set.
